5PX Predictive Battery Fault Reset

These systems have a predictive battery life timer as a function that creates a fault. This is usually the cause of a battery fault alert after replacing the internal batteries and with older firmware versions it sometimes doesn't reset or gets stuck.

To reset the battery life timer, you may reference the following procedure:

Note: The lifecycle management timer activates after 4 years in Eaton 5-series UPS. In older firmware, we must power cycle the UPS to reset the timer (we have changed the most recent firmware to allow a reset without dropping the load).

Caution: Be sure that it is OK to shutdown the UPS in question prior to performing this procedure to prevent an interruption in power to your load. Otherwise, if you only have one UPS, you will need to plan for a brief power outage to perform the reset, as the procedure requires the UPS to be shut down for a brief period of time.

Procedure:

1. Plan your power outage window for a safe time.

2. During your outage window, gracefully shutdown any connected equipment.

3. Using the LCD menu, turn off the UPS output (the UPS should still be plugged into the wall with batteries connected, with the LCD screen still operational).

5. While the UPS is in the shutdown: logic power only state after completing number 3 above, make note of any settings you changed/configured in the UPS.

5. Navigate to Control > Restore Factory Setting, then click “Yes” if it asks “Are you Sure?”

6. Once the factory reset is performed, unplug the UPS and wait until the display goes completely dark and the fans turn off.

7. Plug the UPS back in to the wall/source, configure any appropriate settings, then power on the UPS.

8. Wait approx. 1 minute, then verify the alarm is no longer active/no red LED and no alarms are exhibited serially or by the network card.

9. If you have a web card, under “UPS Status,” hover your mouse over the battery symbol. The info box to the side should show something like “49 months” for the “Life Time” of the batteries.
